Over the years, I've worked in both private practice and for a large corporation.  While in private practice I've provided counsel to a variety of entrepreneurs, up start companies and large corporations.  My private practice experience includes:

  • U.S. patent application preparation together with U.S. and foreign patent application prosecution in a variety of technologies, including:

    • medical devices (ie: implantable devices, diagnostic tools, rhythm management aids, vascular devices, cryogenic applications, etc.)

    • electromechanical devices (ie: sensors, circuits, controllers, testing equipment, etc.) 

    • mechanical devices (ie: impellers, boilers, pumps, filters, road construction, material testing equipment, additive manufacturing, etc.)

    • Miscellaneous components (ie: exercise equipment, outdoor sports, shipping containers, archery sights, etc.)

  • Preparation and negotiation of various contractual agreements, including license agreements, assignments, acquisitions, etc.

  • Patent litigation 

  • Trademark registration, opposition, and litigation

  • Copyright registration and litigation

  • Pretrial motion practice and Appellate practice

  • Preparation of opinions: patentability, validity/invalidity, and infringement/non-infringement

While working as a patent attorney within a large corporation I had the opportunity to:

  • Oversee and manage U.S. and foreign patent application preparation, prosecution, and maintenance

  • Provide advice and counsel concerning contracts with suppliers, vendors, Universities, government agencies, and others

  • Prepare contracts and assist with negotiating contracts with suppliers, vendors, Universities and others

  • Provide recommendations for implementing and improving IP business process

  • Support and provide legal counsel to senior management on various intellectual property matters

  • Support and train technical personnel and business managers related to IP

  • Counsel concerning export control laws

  • Counsel concerning trademark registration, maintenance and enforcement

  • License negotiation and support

  • Pre-litigation evaluations and litigation support

  • Oversee a Patent Review Board

  • Draft non-disclosure, joint development, research, and other agreements
